2026/27 SAMU Student Handbook
Date
April-June 2026
Role
Co-lead designer
The SAMU Student Handbook is produced each year and distributed free to students across the MacEwan campus. The handbook provides students with an organizational tool while informing them of important events, dates, policies, programs, and services.
The 2026/2027 handbook was designed to reflect current design trends with the goal of creating fresh material that engages the upcoming student demographic. This year another designer and myself split the workload to create designs that required more process time and an updated calendar layout. My role focused on the cover, the tabs, and the resource section of the book, while the other designer focused on the calendar.
Zine and collage were the major inspiration behind this project. The idea was to create material that reflected handmade work, with the intention to depart from the increasing AI digital world. Using intentional processes that mimic cut and paste layering with imagery of students, the outcome is a relatable and authentic book. Utilizing SAMU photography, it was important to bring in pictures of the MacEwan campus to help new students feel familiar coming into the new school year. Additionally, photographs of SAMU programs, services, and events were used throughout the book to highlight to the student population what's available to them throughout the academic year.
